autoerotica / non-erogenous zones
performance installation
"Art Path"; Tokyo National University of Fine Art and Music; Toride, Japan. 2004
The viewer first encounters the video monitor located by an elevator. The video portrays me tenderly kissing and biting flesh. When the elevator doors open, a larger-than-life-sized photograph of myself greets the viewer.
The non-erogenous location of the love-bites marking my arms and legs reveals that they had been self-inflicted.
Autoerotica/non-erogenous zones is also a loving, feminine parody of Vito Acconci’s 1970 performance, Trademarks, in which he covered his body with brutal bites.
