I collected stories of greatest personal embarrassment and mortification from the citizens of Nicosia.
Then, formally half-dressed, I recounted these anonymous anecdotes from a hole in the ground where the earth had cracked opened and swallowed me whole.

"I was at a bar with my friends when my crush walked in. I downed a couple of shots whilst working up the courage to chat her up. Finally I took a deep breath, strode over to her - and promptly vomited on her shoes."
"During my entrance exam to a Japanese university, I mistook the kanji phrase, Doku Ji Sei (’alone’, ’self’, ’sex’), to mean ’masturbation’ and so wrote an essay on its metaphorical importance in artmaking. Doku Ji Sei actually means ’individuality’."
"Last Christmas, I stayed over at my in-laws’ place for the first time. I got hungry at midnight and devoured the leftover turkey in the fridge. I later learned that I had eaten up the scraps collected from everyone’s plates - for the dogs."
"Yesterday whilst chatting with our nanny, I let loose a silent but deadly fart. Nanny immediately checked my baby’s nappy and was surprised to find it clean. Keeping an innocent face, I silently farted several more times. Then a LOUD one."
