happily ever after

durational performance with Ichiban and my mother: 4 hours
"Singapore Art Show"; Singapore Art Museum; Singapore. 2007

Having recently lost love (yet again), I spoke with friends who seemed to know something about love which I clearly did not.

I learned several sobering (and unromantic) things:

1. Love is a desire to serve (!) the beloved.

2. What actually goes on in "happily ever after" is more dirty socks than fairy dust.

3. "Happily ever after" is hard work.

A dog’s wagging tail pokes out of a hole in the front of a human-sized doghouse. Inside the doghouse with my puppy, Ichiban, I devote my full attention and energy to keeping him as happy as possible. My mother, who knows a thing or two about love in real life, assisted me with advice and dog biscuits.

Visitors were welcomed to enter the doghouse to say hello to Ichiban and to witness our sweaty efforts at keeping him happy for the duration of the opening reception.
